UPDATE: ACTION TAKEN AFTER COMMUNITY CONCERN: By Quana Frasier: Writer, Journalist, Civic Media Specialist "The Pen of the Pee Dee"Pee Dee Ink is a civic media platform amplifying real stories from Florence, SC. The Pen of the Pee Dee belongs to the people.
We’re excited to report that after months of overgrown grass and neglect, the lawn at a property owned by the Housing Authorities has finally been cut.
This comes shortly after Pee Dee Ink highlighted growing frustrations among residents about poor upkeep at vacant Housing Authority homes — concerns that included safety risks, falling property values, and the feeling of being ignored by those in power.
While it's just one lawn, it's proof that when the community speaks up — and someone listens — change can happen. Let this be a reminder: Your voice matters.
We’ll continue to monitor these properties and keep you informed. Pee Dee Ink is committed to holding those responsible accountable — one yard at a time.
Pee Dee Ink will continue covering these issues. If you’ve seen similar conditions in your neighborhood, send your story to info@peedeeink.com. The Pen of the Pee Dee is yours — and together, we will write a better future.
